August Winner and More news!

‘As they used to say in Ireland, the devil only comes into good things.’ Narrated by Lilly Bere, On Canaan’s Side opens as she mourns the loss of her grandson, Bill. The story then goes back to the moment she was forced to flee Dublin, at the end of the First World War, and follows her life through into the new world of America, a world filled with both hope and danger. At once epic and intimate, Lilly’s narrative unfurls as she tries to make sense of the sorrows and troubles of her life and of the people whose lives she has touched. Spanning nearly seven decades, it is a novel of memory, war, family-ties and love, which once again displays Sebastian Barry’s exquisite prose and gift for storytelling.

The Books Awards are about to undergo some major changes as we integrate with our sister site AcclaimedBooks.com. Both will take on a new look in the coming weeks and there will be changes to the way you can vote as well as more reviews and we'll be interviewing your favourite authors.

Over the years, we've seen many books of different genres attract votes but we've noticed the vast majority fall into just a few categories. So we've also decided to focus upon these and in the next few weeks, you'll see what these are. We're also opening a discussion forum so you can exchange your thoughts on these books and others, authors or tell others about your latest find.

There's a lot going on so why not book mark this blog or better still, set up an RSS feed to let you know as soon as the latest news is released.
