Winner for November Announced

The winner of the Book Awards for November, 2010 is Kathryn Stockett for her outstanding debut novel, The Help.

The Help attracted by far the largest number of votes this month and overall it is one of the most popular books we have ever listed.

This beautifully written novel deals with underlying racist attitudes from the perspective of three women, two of them black maids, in the 1960s. It is both sensitive and profound and reminds us of how recent this period was in our history and how the remaining vestiges of racism have to be confronted by all of us on every occasion.

What is remarkable and a sad indictment on our times is that no less than forty five literary agents turned down this outstanding work.
