The Book of Ebenezer Le Page by G B Edwards accumulated the most votes this summer and is one of my personal favourites (I've already reviewed it here).
This classic is written in an autobiographic style although Ebenezer is entirely fictional. It is set on the island of Guernsey and covers much of the twentieth century including two wars and, of course, the German Occupation of the islands. As Ebenezer is supposedly writing the book himself, the real author may be excused a host of literary and typographical errors - neat trick GB!
Nonetheless, a highly enjoyable read, no doubt benefiting from increased popularity due to the best selling 'Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' which is also set in Guernsey during the Occupation.
In my view, Ebenezer is a far more authentic account and is certainly regarded as such by the locals of the island.
