After a very close contest, the winner of the August 2009 Book Awards goes to the late Mary Ann Shaffer for her epistolary novel 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'.
This worthy winner is set in our home island of Guernsey during the German Occupation and has already topped the New York Times best seller's list.
A splendid read with rich characters that captures the period beautifully.
